Intern Diary: Lily

My summer as a PR intern at JMG has been such a special experience, and I couldn’t imagine spending it with any other team. I came in with limited hands-on experience beyond classwork, and I am walking away with such a stronger grasp on the industry and a full painted picture of the fast-paced world of agency life. One of the biggest highlights for me was honing my writing skills through pitch writing and press releases, which I hadn’t had much opportunity to do before. On top of that, I learned how to build media lists, draft briefing documents, create press summaries and so so much more. Every task showed me how all the pieces fit together in PR and after two fulfilling months, I feel like I’m walking away with an entirely new level of confidence not only in my skills, but in my future in PR.

What I cherished most everyday was the people and environment JMG created – pop culture chats, end-of-day check-ins, and intern coffee hours. Even through the remote setup, I never felt disconnected and it was so exciting to log on everyday knowing I’d get to chat with the lovely team. These small moments gave a unique sense of community that I’m so grateful to have had. I also can’t emphasize enough how empowering it was to be part of an all-female team. Being in such an uplifting and inspiring community made me feel constantly motivated and supported. From day one, Jenna and every executive made it clear how much JMG values their interns and that we would be truly part of the team.

Also from the very beginning, I felt so much gratitude toward my executive, Cara, for the trust she had in me starting right from my JMG interview. It was such a special feeling to know someone had confidence in me, allowing me to lean into my creativity and take my own direction with every project. Learning and growing under Cara’s mentorship has been so rewarding, and I’ll always cherish the guidance and encouragement she gave me throughout the summer. I also loved working alongside Ryleigh and Grace, who were equally motivating and such positive forces to our team.

Overall, I am beyond grateful for everything I’ve learned here and everyone I’ve met. This internship has not only given me hands-on skills, but a clear vision of where I see my professional self. I truly can’t say anything but positive things about JMG’s internship program. JMG gave me the perfect summer filled with growth, inspiration and laughter, and I couldn’t be more thankful to have been part of this wonderful team! Thank you to everyone who made this experience so impactful!
