Intern Diary: Julia
When I was first introduced to JMG PR, I was immediately impressed by its all-female team, which I found to be an inspiring presence in the media and communications world. From my initial interview with Cara (who later became my executive), I was drawn to the agency's positive, empowering energy. Cara's approachable and encouraging leadership made it clear that the team values hard work, professionalism, and having fun along the way. This was especially evident in the friendships I built with the other interns—JMG fosters a strong sense of community that continued to grow throughout the internship. The inclusive culture could be attributed to the daily end-of-day calls that allowed everyone to share what they worked on that day, chats about pop culture news, and intern-only meetings allowing us to bond and connect with one another. These small but consistent touchpoints created a strong sense of community that allowed me to build meaningful relationships I know I'll continue to carry forward.
Over the past six months, my time at JMG has been filled with tremendous professional growth. One of the most rewarding aspects of the internship was the hands-on work I was trusted with—from building media lists, press releases, tracking coverage, writing pitches, creating press briefings, clippings, and drafting summaries. Each task allowed me to develop a valuable mix of research, writing skills, and creativity. I especially enjoyed the strategic process behind pitch development. Throughout this process I discovered a passion for becoming deeply knowledgeable on a topic so that I could help pitch it effectively to a client. Contributing to a wide range of client accounts also exposed me to multiple industries—tech, health, fitness, and entertainment—which expanded my understanding of how public relations functions in today's media landscape. This experience also helped me clarify which areas of the industry I might want to pursue in the future. Each task felt like an opportunity to learn, and I'm grateful for how much trust the team placed in us as interns. I am especially thankful for Cara and Ryleigh's support, for answering all my questions, offering clarity, and feedback so I could get the most out of this experience and provide my best work.
Overall, my experience at JMG PR has been incredibly valuable, helping me grow both professionally and personally. I'm so grateful to Cara, Jenna, and Ryleigh for their guidance and mentorship and to the whole JMG team for being so welcoming and supportive throughout this journey. Thank you!
