Intern Diary: Yael
As my internship at JMG PR comes to an end, I’ve taken some time to reflect on what a fast-paced, eye-opening, and rewarding experience this has been. Coming into the role, I was eager to gain real-world experience in public relations, and I’m leaving with not just stronger skills, but a much deeper understanding of the industry and where I see myself within it.
What surprised me most was just how fast-paced the PR world really is. There were many moments when I had to pause whatever I was working on to jump into something more urgent or time-sensitive. It taught me how to stay flexible, prioritize quickly, and keep a calm mindset under pressure. That juggling act is something I now feel much more prepared for.
Throughout the internship, I got hands-on with everything from building media lists and tracking coverage to writing follow-up pitches and helping shape client strategies. One of my favorite experiences was working on outreach for InteLogix—I loved getting to dive into research, shape messaging, and actually see the results play out in real time.
This internship helped me grow a lot in terms of communication and confidence. Writing pitches that are sharp and to the point, understanding what makes a story newsworthy, and navigating media interactions—all of that became second nature thanks to the experience I gained here.
What made the internship especially meaningful was the culture at JMG. Even while working remotely, I felt included and supported. The team was always there to answer questions, give feedback, and treat me as a valuable part of the process. That mentorship really made a difference.
One of my favorite memories from this internship was participating in the Sip the Tea, especially the one where we all watched and discussed 10 Things I Hate About You. It was such a fun and memorable experience that brought a different kind of energy to the week. It gave the team a chance to connect on a more personal level and build relationships with each other outside of our usual work tasks, which made the experience feel even more special and collaborative.
I want to give a special thank-you to Kristen for being such a supportive and inspiring boss throughout my time here. From day one, you trusted me to take on meaningful work, and your feedback helped me improve and grow with every task. You always took the time to answer questions and share your insights, and that guidance meant a lot to me.
I’m so grateful for everything I’ve learned and for the people I’ve gotten to learn from. Thank you to everyone at JMG PR for such a memorable and impactful semester—I’m excited to carry these skills and experiences with me as I continue my journey in PR.
