Intern Diary: Grace

We underestimate the power of LinkedIn. Sometimes that power is invisible, but still clear and very much beneficial. Back in April 2025, who would have thought an inspiring Zoom call turned LinkedIn post would allow me to grow my content skills at JMG PR?

When I first heard about JMG PR, it was my freshman year when one of the graduating seniors from Montclair PRSSA reached out to me, sending a post that the agency was looking for interns. I felt as though I wasn’t ready yet. So of course, I thanked them, but never went through with the process.

All because… I was scared.

Then came my spring semester sophomore year, and I entered the 10th Anniversary giveaway. In this giveaway, there was merch, and there was a 30-minute Zoom call with Jenna. In my head, I knew I wasn’t going to get it because I’m not the luckiest person when it comes to raffles, bingo, or giveaways.

However, when I received that DM to announce I won. It was fan girl central in my room. I got to meet Jenna for the first time, and I was so nervous. This was a person who has impacted many PR professionals, and I’m honored to be one in the making under her teachings. I remembered asking him, “What exactly is thought leadership?” From that point, I knew I wanted to be one in the future.

JMG PR is an agency that I was a fan of first as an intern. I was obsessed with their nostalgic social media aesthetic and how inclusive they were.  For my club’s executive board gift exchange, the first item on my list was You Need PR. At the time, I didn’t have the budget to purchase the book myself, so Secret Santa became the perfect solution. I’ve spent all of my summer before my sophomore year reading and getting a glimpse of what the PR world consists of. I will say, JMG and Jenna were (and still are!) my resource for growing as a Social Media & PR professional.

Meeting Jenna was one thing; meeting her team was everything. Especially Arcely and Alexandra. I can go write a book about how much these two ladies have inspired me my fall semester. They challenged me, and they acknowledged me. Even when I asked them if they are ever interested in me going into the office to shoot some b-roll for the office. They were eager to welcome me, in they did.

I felt welcomed and appreciated. Alexandra is a hardworking power machine. My first introduction to her was before I got the internship, but I watched the first episode of Call Your Publicist. The way she articulated and wasn’t afraid to ask the first question that pops in her head, whether it's on or off script.

She’s a role model. Arcely, the mastermind of our socials.

As a first-generation Latina, I struggled heavily with imposter syndrome. Oftentimes, trying to feel Latina enough. To see Arcely in her role as content strategist gives me hope that, as Latinas, there is a seat for us. She is such a creative inspiration that I needed, and she is for sure my Canva professor. These two influential women are leading a content department into greatness, and I’m thankful to have been a part of it.

My experience at JMGPR has been nothing but a learning and insightful experience. I received feedback, and tons, but all were valuable to making my work ten times better. From editing reels for the newest podcast episodes to working on our content calendar, I learned what I did and didn’t like, but what I was truly more passionate about. With my role as Social Media Intern, I learned how to communicate better and understand that a work-life balance does exist in a remote setting. Moreover, I learned that I have a new support system. The person I was starting this internship as to who I am today is a testament to how much the JMG community has done for me. Thank you, everyone!
