Intern Diary: Ayla
Looking back on my summer with JMG PR, it feels surreal how much I’ve learned in just a few months. As an international exchange student from Scotland already living in New York for my studies, I decided to stay for the summer and take on this internship, and I’m so glad I did.
What struck me right away was how genuinely my ideas were listened to. This wasn’t the kind of internship where you just observe from the sidelines. My suggestions were not only welcomed but also often used, which made me feel like my voice mattered. That trust came with real responsibility, and it was incredibly rewarding to see the impact of my work in action.
Although remote, I never felt disconnected. The team created such a supportive environment that I always felt included, especially through our “Sip the Tea” meetings, a highlight of my days that always brought plenty of laughs as well as real connection. On top of that, living in New York gave me the chance to visit the office, meet some of the team face to face, and even contribute to a shoot. Having the opportunity to add my own ideas in that setting was such an exciting glimpse into how the industry works in practice.
I owe so much thanks to Arcely and Alexandra for their encouragement, patience, and enthusiasm. No question ever felt too small with them, and their leadership made us feel like a true team.
This experience has given me more than just industry knowledge. It’s shown me authentic practices, taught me how PR and social media really work day to day, and given me connections and confidence I’ll carry with me well beyond this summer.
