Intern Diary: Katie

I had been looking for a summer 2026 internship for a few weeks, and I decided to branch out beyond a single-company internship to look for agency work. I had been wary of agency work because I questioned whether I was capable of working on documents with rules and specifications for multiple organizations. Now, I realize I couldn’t have been more wrong. I’ve completed more assignments, learned more about PR work as a whole, and grown my love for the subject more than I thought I could. JMG has helped me realize that agency work is an area I want to explore further, especially because I find it both challenging and rewarding.

Through all of the email pitches, media lists, brainstorming documents, press releases, and more, I learned how to hone my writing skills to reflect the wants and needs of multiple clients. Having the opportunity to take a concept and turn it into a full document reflecting the ideals of an organization was both thrilling and challenging to me, as in class I had mainly only done this for example projects. Working directly on client-facing documents was also very impactful. Not only am I a helping hand to my superiors and peers, but I am also contributing to documents that are needed by the clients promptly. I also appreciated the feedback I received directly on my working documents. When looking for an internship, I wanted to find a team where I not only could contribute to a lot of work, but also learn from that work through direct feedback to improve my writing skills. Growing up, my Dad raised my siblings and me on the value of giving and receiving feedback to better ourselves and our work. I was happy to see JMG valued feedback as well, not just to get the task done, but to teach their interns how to write more concisely and efficiently for each client.

Apart from my work at JMG, the phrase “the people make the place” really is true. My supervisor at JMG has been the most challenging, yet supportive and encouraging individual I could have asked for to lead me through this internship. With her guidance, I have learned more than I could have asked for. In my training conversations and even fun “Sip the Tea” sessions, I was able to make sincere connections with other JMG employees and interns, showing me that JMG truly values its employees and the bonding time between them.

I want to say thank you to both my supervisor and my other mentors at JMG for giving me this wonderful opportunity and taking the time to give me advice, feedback, and support in my internship journey. I will forever be thankful for this opportunity and look back on my time at JMG fondly.
