Intern Diary: Guiliana

Reflecting back on my spring internship at JMG Public Relations, it’s clear how much this semester has shaped the way I think about social media and content creation. Working on the content team under Alexandra and Arcely, I learned a lot more than I expected, but it was exactly what I needed as I head into my senior year of college.

Coming in, I knew I wanted to work in social media, but I didn’t fully understand what that meant, and had little knowledge of what that role looked like in a professional setting. Even though the internship took place remotely, at JMG I was able to gain hands-on experience that pushed me to build real skills in graphic design, video editing, and copywriting, which taught me how to use those tools to tell a story through content, rather than just producing it.

I was also given the opportunity to pitch my own ideas, which was a new experience for me. Some of those ideas were actually used for content, which was a highlight of my semester. It made my work feel meaningful and allowed me to have a voice to contribute creatively in a professional environment.

Other than the work itself, the community at JMG made the experience feel like more than just an internship. Our “Sip The Tea” meetings were a regular chance to catch up on pop culture moments or just hear about everyone’s weekend, which went a long way in making the team feel connected. There was also a weekly spotlight that highlighted intern wins from that week, which I really appreciated.

Alexandra and Arcely were a big part of my positive experience at JMG. They made asking questions feel easy and were genuinely invested in making sure I was learning, which made a big difference. There was never a moment where I felt like I was bothering them or that my questions weren’t worth asking. That kind of openness is what allowed me to truly engage with the work I was creating. It felt like I was truly part of the team.

Going into my senior year, I feel a lot more prepared and confident about where I am heading in my future career. This internship gave me a much clearer picture of the industry I am going into and helped me acquire the practical skills I can actually carry with me, and I’m grateful for everything I took away from it.
