Intern Diary: Grace
As a returning intern for the Content Department, this semester challenged me in the best way possible. Through this internship, I built my leadership and analytical skills with the support of our Content Strategist, Arcely, and Head of Content, Alexandra. In the role of Senior Social Media Intern, I contributed to content roll-out, planned content on our IG ahead, and assisted the Content Strategist in distributing tasks among the SM interns. See, I wouldn’t have had the courage to take on this role if it weren’t for how prepared the content department made me last semester.
From learning new terms like “Manychat CTA” to “Copy Outline,” my experience as a social media intern became a free course with two new professors attached. I was a student eager to check in every morning and hear about the new challenge I’d get to take on. Some days followed the usual routine: a brief call, updating the content visualizer, assigning tasks, designing or uploading posts, and sending over my check-out exit ticket (aka a rundown of the tasks I completed). Other days looked a little different: creating presentation decks for close-out client reviews, having fun designing one-pagers, and assisting Jenna with content.
I took on a role that I wasn’t fully ready for, but it’s a role I’m truly grateful and blessed to have stepped into. The JMG team became like family to me. In many ways, they’ve seen me mature and grow professionally, even in a remote setting. This experience showed me that meaningful growth and connection are absolutely possible remotely, and this internship program truly proves that.
Alexandra has a heart of gold and an incredible ability to adapt to anything, which inspires me to view PR differently. She showed me that, at the end of the day, PR truly does choose you. As for Arcely, she may not know it, but she has been a PR fairy godmother to me. I constantly bombarded her with questions and curiosity, yet even when she was busy, she always made sure to provide an answer, even if it came the next morning. These two professionals have inspired and encouraged me to become a better version of myself every single day. Being their intern has taught me that achieving a work-life balance is possible, though it takes time. Most importantly, it becomes easier when you have a strong support system. Mine was the incredible content department team.
Although this closes my chapter at JMGPR, I won’t forget the beautiful memories and the Sip the Tea sessions. This is a community I’ll always check in on and one I feel incredibly lucky to have been a part of. Thank you so much!
