Intern Diary: Caroline
Stepping into this internship, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect—but it’s turned out to be an incredibly rewarding experience. I’ve genuinely enjoyed the work, and it’s been a perfect fit for the direction I want to take in my career. It’s also given me a clear, realistic look at the fast-paced nature of the industry.Each task taught me something valuable—and that’s been one of the most important takeaways.
My long-term goal is to run social media for a company I love—whether that’s a sports team, a fashion brand, or a major makeup line. I want to be the person behind the posts, creating awesome content, starting conversations in the comments, and building a real connection with an audience. I could even see myself working directly for a platform like Instagram or TikTok. This internship has been a total game-changer in helping me build the skills and confidence to chase those dreams.
A big part of my time at JMG PR was spent managing their Instagram account. That meant designing posts and stories, creating Reels, sending DMs, and responding to comments. It was hands-on experience with a real account followed by thousands of people, with that came real responsibility. I’ve definitely had moments where a mistake felt way bigger than it probably was, but I’ve learned the truth behind the phrase, “It’s PR, not ER.” It’s not life or death—but it does teach you to stay sharp, think quickly, and take pride in your work.
Beyond content creation, this internship helped me grow in so many ways. My writing skills have improved significantly through drafting newsletters, editing blog posts, and crafting all kinds of captions and outlines. I’ve learned just how much strategy and effort go into building a brand’s voice—and what it really means to work on a professional team.
At the end of the day, I can confidently say this experience has fully prepared me to step into a career in social media. I’m walking away with hands-on skills, meaningful lessons, and a stronger sense of direction for where I want to go next.
