Intern Diary: Blake
That’s a wrap on my summer internship with JMG! Time flew by, and everyday I am so grateful they took a chance on me and gave me so many opportunities to learn, create and grow.
I first heard about JMG when Jenna’s Instagram account popped up on my explore page, which feels extremely fitting considering I ended up spending my summer working on the content team! I immediately became obsessed with the content on both Jenna’s and JMG’s accounts because it brought together so many of the things I already loved: pop culture, media, PR and storytelling. What started as simply following an account I loved turned into an opportunity to actually contribute to the content that had originally caught my attention. From the moment I met with Cara during the interview process, I had a feeling JMG would be the perfect fit, and this summer proved exactly that.
As an Editorial Social Intern, I’ve seen myself grow in ways I didn’t even know were possible. Not only have I had the chance to strengthen my writing skills, but also my pitching, research, content strategy and ability to think creatively under pressure. I’ve learned how to take a timely story and find the larger angle behind it, adapt my writing to someone else’s voice and turn an initial idea into content that feels both relevant and purposeful. Most importantly, this internship has taught me to trust my ideas and be confident enough to share them. Seeing concepts I pitched turn into published content was incredibly rewarding and reminded me how much I love the creative and strategic side of this industry.
Thank you so much to everyone I worked closely with on the content team. Arcely and Alexandra, thank you for providing me with constant support, thoughtful feedback and the space to be creative throughout the summer. You both challenged me to think differently, strengthened my confidence in my ideas and taught me so much about what it means to create strategic, meaningful content. Jenna, thank you so much for trusting me to contribute to your personal brand and giving me the opportunity to bring my ideas to life. Getting to learn from your perspective and see firsthand how you turn your expertise and experiences into meaningful content has been such a valuable part of my summer. Furthermore, I will miss our “sip-the-tea” calls so much! Being able to talk about everything happening in pop culture with the other interns and executives was always something I looked forward to and made working remotely feel so much more connected and fun.
I’m so happy I had the chance to be part of this team, as this experience has had a lasting impact on my growth, both personally and professionally. Thank you JMG!
