Intern Diary: A’Mya

This spring at JMG Public Relations has been one of the most formative experiences of my college career and internship experiences. From the very beginning, I felt like part of a team that truly values collaboration, creativity, and strong storytelling.

What has impacted me most is the culture at JMG.

Every brainstorm, edit, and pitch refinement showed me how intentional and strategic PR really is. Watching the team reframe angles and subject lines and tailor messaging for different outlets taught me that great public relations isn’t about sending information out – it's about understanding people, timing, and positioning. The feedback I received constantly pushed me to think deeper and write sharper.

I also learned how fast paced and detail oriented agency life is. Balancing multiple accounts at once requires organization, adaptability, and confidence in my ideas. The team trusted me with real work, which helped me grow quickly and step into my confident voice as a communicator.

One of my favorite projects I worked on was the Keith Lee X Brooklyn Dumpling Shop (BKDS) collab! In March, Keith Lee announced his first influencer investment at BKDS. One of the highlights for me was getting to write the press release for the campaign. It was a full-circle moment – taking what I’ve learned in class about strategic messaging and applying it to a fast-moving, high-visibility campaign. Seeing how quickly the story gained traction with national outlets reinforced just how powerful influencer-driven PR can be when it’s executed thoughtfully and strategically.

Most importantly, this experience strengthened my belief that PR is where I belong. Being surrounded by strong, supportive women who lead with both strategy and heart showed me what this career can look like. This spring didn’t just build my resume – it built my confidence, my resilience, and my excitement for the future of my career.
